You Don’t Want to Miss “Harmony at the Port”!
The Port Theatre will be ringing with thrilling harmony and laughter when Nanaimo’s own Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus takes center stage for their annual Spring show, on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The hairs on the back of your neck will stand up—literally—when you hear those electrifying Barbershop chords, sung by this award-winning male a cappella chorus.
This year’s show, “Harmony at the Port”, promises you an uplifting evening of songs, fun, humour … and music delivered as only Barbershop singers can. In the first half of the show, The Tidesmen are delayed in the ferry line, for a most unusual reason. Will they ever make it off the Island? Come and discover why this sailing delay could only happen in Nanaimo, and hear how the Tidesmen deal with it in song.
For an extra-special musical treat, you’ll enjoy The Momma’s Boys, one of the Pacific Northwest’s leading quartets. These Kelly brothers from Seattle—Steven, Ian, Michael and Sean—will amaze and inspire you with their vocal virtuosity.
The Tidesmen’s infectious style, powerful voices and popular song choices will have you smiling, clapping and singing along. Their varied repertoire includes Blues, Rock and Roll, Broadway Standards, The American Song Book, inspirational songs, and Barbershop favourites.
The Tidesmen (www.tidesmen.com) participate in community events throughout the mid-Island, and are proud supporters of the important work of Nanaimo’s Child Development Centre. The Chorus is a grateful recipient of a Culture and Heritage grant from the City of Nanaimo.
The Tidesmen is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the world’s largest all-male singing organization, with more than 70,000 members worldwide. The Chorus warmly welcomes new members to its Monday evening rehearsals, at Costin Hall in Lantzville.
