On Saturday from 9-11:30 AM with Joanne and Richard Sales, The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements from the many traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. The dances promote peace and integration within individuals and groups worldwide. There are no performers nor audience – new arrivals and old hands form the circle together. No prior experience is necessary.
From 1:30-4 PM participants will experience the mystery of the ancient sacred circle dance with presentation and movement led by Laura Shannon. Laura Shannon holds an honours degree in Intercultural Studies (1986) and a postgraduate diploma in Dance Movement Therapy (1990), trained in Sacred Dance at the Findhorn Foundation in 1987, she has been a faculty member of the Sacred Dance Department there since 1998.
Laura will present an illustrated talk on the Ancient History of Sacred Dance, followed by an experiential session of Women’s Ritual Dances of Greece and the Balkans. These dances are ancient traditional circle dances which have roots in the Neolithic period, going back up to 10,000 years. They honour the Divine Mother in her earliest names and forms, and they are still living ritual dances in the present-day Christian tradition. Cap off the evening from 7 to 9 PM with The Practise: Hybrid of Movement Theology – Meditative Ecstatic Dance.
The Universal Dance of Peace will take place to honour veterans during 2019 Remembrance Day. Inquire at the office for further retreat information by phone at 250.754.3254 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants can bring a meaningful song, poem or short dance to end the workshop and begin their new journey anew.
