Bethlehem Centre Welcomes Rabbi Dr. Laura Duhan Kaplan for Keynote at Gala June 24th, 2017
Join Bethlehem Centre Saturday June 24th, 2017 at 5 pm for Bethlehem Alive 2017: a gala fundraiser evening of splendid food, inspiration, and magnificent music located in the lakeside woodlands on beautiful, tranquil Westwood Lake at 2371 Arbot Rd. in Nanaimo, BC. Spiritual, Religious or Both? will be presented by Vancouver-based keynote speaker Rabbi Dr. Laura Duhan Kaplan, Director of Inter-Religious Studies at the Vancouver School of Theology, where she teaches about multi-faith literacy, dialogue, scriptures, and spirituality. Duhan Kaplan teaches that spiritual practice is the art of paying attention to your spirit and poses the question, “how can we practice this art within, beyond and across traditions?”
This exclusive gala event includes a fabulous dinner prepared by our Certified Chef du Cuisine Margot Bodchon, and her team, the evening program, and an irresistible dessert buffet. Guest arrivals and mingling will take place at 5 pm.
There are two ticket options for the Bethlehem Alive 2017 Gala:
Option 1 at 5 pm for dinner, program and dessert is priced at $100 per person and includes a Bethlehem Centre charitable receipt. Option 2 at 7 pm includes our evening program with Rabbi Dr. Laura Duhan Kaplan, and our dessert buffet for $50 per person plus a charitable receipt. The keynote address will take place at 7:30 pm followed by music, mingling and desserts at 8 pm. All Option 1 and 2 guests are welcome to join us for an optional stayover for $75 per person/night. (Includes room and a Continental breakfast). A cash bar and silent auction fundraiser will take place from 5-9 pm.
Celebrated for her innovative work helping students use philosophy to explore their life narratives, Rabbi Dr. Laura Duhan Kaplan received five teaching awards, including the Carnegie Foundation’s U.S. Professor of the Year award and an honorary Doctor of Pedagogy degree from Niagara University. As a popular speaker and an award-winning teacher, she draws on her experience as Rabbi Emerita of Or Shalom Synagogue, Professor Emerita of Philosophy at UNC Charlotte, Spiritual Director, and Hatha Yoga teacher. Laura lives in Vancouver with her musical husband Charles, where she enjoys the natural beauty of British Columbia, and blogs at sophiastreet.com.
